ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans defeated the seventh -ranked Michigan Wolverines 14-10 on Saturday night to improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 Big Ten. The victory marks the eighth time the Spartans have defeated the Wolverines in the past 10-ten years.
Brian Lewerke ran for a touchdown and threw for a score in the first half – including the go-ahead TD on a 14-yard run late in the first quarter. He threw a 16-yard pass to Madre London to put the Spartans up 14-3 midway through the second quarter. Lewerke was 11 of 22 for 94 yards and a TD and ran 15 times for 61 yards and another score.
The Michigan Wolverines struggled offensively, including five turnovers and several costly penalties. John O’Korn , who replaced injured starter Wilton Speight, threw three interceptions in the second half. Ty Isaac and Sean McKeon fumbled.
