DETROIT, Michigan — U.S. Democratic Rep. John Conyers announced on The Mildred Gaddis Show that he will retire from his seat in Congress Tuesday.
He endorsed his son to replace him in Congress. Conyers, 88, was the longest currently serving member of the US House of Representatives.
With Conyers’s retirement, Alaska Republican Rep. Don Young becomes the new dean of the House. He is now the longest current member of Congress, holding his at-large seat since March 6, 1973.
