STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Upplands Vasby Oumie Jammeh captured “Model of The Year” honors at the 2018 Elle Awards. The 22-year old former Dancehall Queen turned Model, posted “Dreams Do Come True,” before thanking the host Elle Sweden along with modeling agencies Mikas and Next Models. The Gambian beauty said she was inspired by Supermodel Naomi Campbell’s catwalk and the glamour of the supermodel era.
Jammeh has always known since she was a little girl that she was meant for the catwalk. In an interview with Vogue Magazine, she opened up about her childhood dreams and meeting her idols along the way. “Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be a model,” she says, and she took the initiative to reach out to agencies in her hometown of Stockholm once she turned 18.
On meeting her idols.“When I got to meet Victoria Beckham for the first time—that’s a moment that I will never forget. It was [also] crazy-amazing to work with someone whom I admire, like Naomi [Campbell]. I was in shock and still am.”
On her ultimate supermodel inspiration.“Naomi [Campbell] is my favorite model because I loved watching her as a little girl and still admire her today. She was the first model I’d heard of when I was still living in Gambia. Her presence both on the catwalk and off is captivating; her style and career are admirable. She worked so hard to get to the top and is still working hard for what she wants. Such an inspiration and role model.”
