STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Dr. Rumman Chowdhury delivered an empowering 40 minute speech during her Breakout Track session: Artificial Influence – How AI is Reshaping our Society at Women In Tech Conference held in Stockholm, Sweden on International Women Day.
The Senior Principal of Artificial Intelligence at Accenture, who holds two undergraduate degrees from MIT, a master’s degree in Quantitative Methods of the Social Sciences from Columbia University, and a doctorate in political science from the University of California, San Diego feels that it’s imperative that women represent themselves in the tech profession, generally dominated by men.
“I think it’s very important for women in tech to be visable,” said Dr. Rumman Chowdhury at Women In Tech Conference to Woodlawn Post (Andrew Mitchell) held at Folkethus in Stockholm, Sweden. ” I see almost zero keynotes as women, its imperative that we attend events like Women In Tech because we need to be on stage and represent for women, or we (women) will drop off, and history will get written without us.”
Dr. Rumman Chowdhury who has emerged as a thought leader in the data science community, role as Senior Principal of Artificial Intelligence at Accenture, is to help companies incorporate artificial intelligence into what they do – present its pragmatic uses and demystify what AI is and how it can be effective on all different levels.
“I get to meet and talk to so many interesting people so its important that I represent myself well for others who are trying to break into the field who may not be a guy,” Dr. Rumman Chowdhury added. “It’s also one of the reasons I spend half my day mentoring those under represented in the field on Saturday’s,” she noted.

Despite taking what she considers to be an untraditional route into the world of Tech, Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, passion lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and humanity.
“I come to data science from a quantitative social science background,” said Dr. Rumman Chowdhury. “Now, I’m working on cutting-edge applications of Artificial Intelligence and leading our Strategic Global Initiative on Responsible Artificial Intelligence and I love it. In my job I advise companies on ethical AI practices and work with organizations such as the World Economic Forum, and the IEEE’s Wellbeing Metrics Standard for Ethical Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems.”
Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, is also a Forbes Tech contributing author and has been named by InformationWeek one of 10 influential AI and machine learning experts to follow on Twitter.
She had this to say about her quick rise in Silicon Valley.
“In Silicon Valley, they say, “Fail Fast” and do what you have to do, and do it quickly; if it works, it works, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t,” she added. “You have to get past perfectionism and realize that if you fail, you didn’t get the job, or whatever, you’ll still wake up tomorrow. Also, I learned to just say yes to things, even if I don’t know what I’m doing. I trust that I’ll figure it out.”
