MEXICO CITY, Mexico — Mexico announced leftist, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador as the countries new President after he swept to victory on Sunday. Lopez Obrador won 53 percent of the vote in a multi-candidate race – the highest total since 1982.
The 64-year-old will take over from current president Enrique Pena Nieto. Mr. López Obrador’s proposals center on increased social spending and public investment, including a public-works program to employ 2.3 million young people, grants to 300,000 university students and a plan to double the amount of money older people receive as retirement pensions.
Congratulations to Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on becoming the next President of Mexico. I look very much forward to working with him. There is much to be done that will benefit both the United States and Mexico!
