DETROIT, Michigan — NY Jets rookie Sam Darnold joined elite company as he guided the visitors to a 48-17 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football at Ford Field.
The former USC Trojan, drafted No. 3 overall,became the youngest quarterback to start a season opener since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
The 21-year-old finished 16 of 21 for 198 yards and two touchdowns, making him the first quarterback to win his first start by 31 or more points since Tom Brady (Michigan Wolverines) in 2001.
