STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Stefan Löfven (Social Democratic Party) met the Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén on Monday to update him on talks to form a government.
“I have had a meeting with Stefan Löfven today, during which he presented his work with the task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government. He will continue this work during the assigned period,” says the Speaker Andreas Norlén after the meeting.
“We have a complicated political situation, where the parties actively need to hold discussions with each other in order to progress. In such situations, internal work is also necessary. The time aspect is important, but at the same time, it is important to respect the fact that the work of the parties can take time. The process now being used to explore the possibilities of forming a government has been used by Speakers of the Riksdag since 1976. I, too, have chosen to follow established practice and provide this framework for the parties’ discussions,” continues the Speaker.
The former Prime Minister Stefan Löfven’s (Social Democratic Party) task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government that is tolerated by the Riksdag is based on the same criteria as that previously given to Ulf Kristersson (Moderate Party). A proposal for Sweden’s 2019 budget has to be put forward to parliament by November 15th.
“It is difficult and complicated. No one has changed their position,” said Stefan Löfven.”
The final report is due on Monday 29 October at the latest.
