AKRON, Ohio — Akron bounced back with a 69-62 win over visiting Western Michigan on Saturday evening at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Zips improved to 13-8 overall and 4-6 inside Mid-American Conference play.
The Zips completed Akron’s first season sweep of Western Michigan since 2011 and became the 15th team in Akron program history to win at least 13 games and the 12th Zips squad to do so in the Division I era.
Junior guard Shaunay Edmonds led the Zips with a season-high 24 points, while Caitlin Vari recorded 15 points and nine rebounds.
Haliegh Reinoehl chipped in with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Broncos had three starters score in double figures, with sophomore Leighah-Amori Wool leading the way with 17 points. Deja Wimby added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds while dishing out five assists. Jasmyn Walker followed with 11 points.
“We did a lot of things right,” said head coach Shane Clipfell. “We didn’t defend the drive as well as I think we’re capable of, but we executed well down the stretch with trying to get some three-point shots at the end. They just didn’t go in.”
Akron hosts MAC West rival Ball State at 7 p.m.
Western Michigan (8-12 overall, 2-7 MAC) will host Central Michigan at University Arena next Wednesday, Feb. 13, The game starts at 7 p.m.
