LOS ANGELES, California — Cardi B, Childish Gambino Drake, Dave Chapelle & H.E.R. all walked away as winners in the hip-hop & r&b categories at the 2019 61st Grammy awards hosted by Alicia Keys at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The annual event was capped off by a performance from Diana Ross and a surprise visit from Michelle Obama. The former First Lady joined Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinkett Smith and host Alicia Keys to discuss the power of music.
Rapper Cardi B won Best Rap Album, the first GRAMMY of her career, for her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy, at the 61st GRAMMY Awards.
Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, Ludwig Goransson and Jeffery Lamar Williams won Song Of The Year for “This Is America” at 61st GRAMMY Awards.
R&B rising star H.E.R. won Best R&B Album for her self-titled album H.E.R., her second award of the night, at the 61st GRAMMY Awards.
Drake won Best Rap Song for “God’s Plan” along with Daveon Jackson, Brock Korsan, Ron LaTour, Matthew Samuels and Noah Shebib at the 61st GRAMMY Awards.
Dave Chappelle won Best Comedy Album for Equanimity & The Bird Revelation at the 2019 GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony.
Chapelle also won Best Comedy Album at the 60th GRAMMY Awards for The Age of Spin & Deep in the Heart of Texas.
The Carters ‘EVERYTHING IS LOVE’ received the award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Ella Mai won a Grammy for Best R&B Song for “Boo’d Up.”
Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Future and James Blake tied with Anderson .Paak for Best Rap Performance at the 61st GRAMMY Awards, for “King’s Dead” from Black Panther: The Album and “Bubblin,” respectively. Jay Rock accepted the award.
