NEWARK, New Jersey — Media mogul Oprah Winfrey donated $500,000 to support the “Lights On” program at West Side High School, started by Principal Akbar Cook during a suprise visit.
The high school program opens its doors several nights a week to give students a place to go and be safe.
The donation will support the “Lights On” summer program, which offers basketball, video games, pool, and cheerleading practice, and will extend to three nights.
