TAYLOR, Michigan — Tech giant, Google, announced is committing to spend $17 million to upgrade and expand offices in Detroit and Ann Arbor.
Google CFO Ruth Porat, who is ranked by Forbes as the 21st most powerful woman in the world, spoke Monday morning in Taylor about the tech giant’s “Grow with Google” workforce training initiative.
Porat said she was impressed during her first ever visit to downtown Detroit over the weekend. She joined Google in 2015 following a long career at investment bank Morgan Stanley. Google agreed to pay her a $70-million-plus compensation package, according to news reports.

The tech firms office expansions will total more than 260,000 square feet across Michigan once completed.
Google’s workshops focued on improving small businesses’ online presence with digital skills.
