LOS ANGELES, California — Cleveland native, Rich Paul, name has been a constant within the frameworks of sports related business dealings ever since he arrived on the scene as partner of NBA superstar LeBron James.
Since his arrival, Paul has helped recreate the relationship between an agent and its clients — by securing long term opportunities both as players and brands outside of the game.
Rich Paul, currently represents not only Lebron James at Klutch Sports, but also Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, Ben Simmons and now 25 others. With free agency looming right around the corner, Sports Illustrated sat down with Rich Paul to discuss what could possibly be a pivotal summer for Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Hornets who requested a trade in January.
“Did you say that to David Falk? Would you say that to Arn Tellem?” Paul says of two agents who juggled vast stables of clients without charges of conflict of interest. “You’re only saying that because you feel like, ‘Well, Rich wouldn’t be in this position without LeBron,’ right? My thing is: Take LeBron off the Lakers. Are the Lakers not a great destination for an arguably top-two player that went to Kentucky and won a national championship, signed with Nike? For a team that’s had centers from George Mikan to Wilt Chamberlain to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Shaq?
Paul stressed that Davis intends to hit free agency next summer no matter where he ends up. He also discusses why Lebron James and Anthony Davis would look good in Purple and Gold and more in the interview.
“The Lakers are Jennifer Lopez.”
Why Rich Paul thinks Anthony Davis would look good in purple and gold.
