WNBA: Farhiya Abdi makes 11 player roster with LA Sparks

Farhiya Abdi has been announced to being among the eleven players who will remain with the LA. Sparks in the WNBA. She has seen pretty steady minutes during the preseason to go along with posting consistently in the scoring column.Abdi won’t participate with Sweden in European Championships this summer. The roster looks like this as of now:

Farhiya Abdi, Alana Beard, Marissa Coleman, Lindsey Harding, Ebony Hoffman, Jantel Lavender, A’dia MAthies, Jenna O’Hea, Nneka Ogwumike, Candace Parker and Kristi Toliver.

Karriem Riggins Live at Faschings May 23rd

Detroit native Karriem Riggins will perform back-to-back shows in Sweden ( May 23rd Fasching, May 24th Nefertiti) in Stockholm and Gothenburg this week.

Riggins who turned his love into a profession, moving from Detroit to New York City in 1994 at the age of 19, played drums in Betty Carter’s band “Jazz Ahead.” Riggins went on to perform with and appear on recordings with various jazz greats such as Hank Jones, Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson, Donald Byrd, Cedar Walton, Bobby Hutcherson, Kenny Burrell, Benny Green, Mulgrew Miller, Ron Carter, Gary Bartz and Diana Krall.

He has produced album tracks for Common, Slum Village, The Roots, and Erykah Badu. He’s toured with Common three times, and produced his “Play Your Cards Right” for Paramount Picture’s feature film “Smoking Aces.” He helped Kanye West demo some theme songs for “Mission Impossible III” featuring Twista and Keyshia Cole. One of Karriem’s most personal and esteemed projects was finishing and producing J Dilla’s last project, “The Shining.” Karriem released his first self-titled album, “Music Kaleidoscope.”

Academy Announces Animated Feature Film Rule Change

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved rules for the 86th Oscars.

The most significant change affects the Animated Feature Film category.

In this category, the new rule designates a maximum of two award recipients, one of whom must have a producer credit. The director and/or key creative individual shall continue to be a recipient, and in the circumstance of a two-person team with shared and equal director credit, a third statuette may be awarded.

Previously announced rules changes for the 86th Academy Awards include allowing members to see the nominated documentary shorts and foreign language films either at a theatrical screening or on DVD. Prior to the final round of voting, the Academy will provide members with DVDs of the nominated films in five categories: Foreign Language Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Animated Short Film, and Live Action Short Film.

Other adjustments to the rules include standard date and other routine changes.

Rules are reviewed annually by individual branch and category committees. The Awards Rules Committee then evaluates all proposed changes before presenting its recommendations to the Academy’s Board of Governors for approval.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
