<p>Fans can participate in the Detroit Tigers 3rd Annual Classic Car Show, presented by MotorCity Casino Hotel and Total Lubricants, on Saturday, June 8, 2012, as the Tigers host the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park.</p>
<p>Interested car owners are asked to participate in a nomination process located online at<strong>tigers.com/carshow</strong>. In order to participate, the following vehicle requirements must be met: manufactured in 1989 or before, must be of show quality, must be street legal, must have current insurance coverage. If selected, a registration fee of $129 will apply, which includes a car show space, two tickets to the Tigers vs. Indians game, two food vouchers for use within Comerica Park, two Classic Car Show T-Shirts, and a Classic Car Show poster.</p>
<p>Nominations will continue <strong>until Friday, May 17, </strong>at which time the 100 best nominated vehicles will be finalized and owners notified of their selection for display at the 3<sup>rd</sup> Annual Classic Car Show.</p>

<p>Detroit Tigers fans are encouraged to visit  <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">TributeforHeroes.com</span></em> to nominate an active or former member of the Armed Forces of the United States or Canada for the chance to represent the Tigers at the 2013 All-Star Game. Tigers fans are encouraged to share their nominee&#8217;s extraordinary military or community service and/or personal and professional accomplishments.</p>
<p>Once all the nominations are reviewed, three veterans/military service members per Club (90 finalists) will be selected by MLB, PEOPLE, and a celebrity panel of judges, who will be announced at a later date.</p>

<p>Fans will then be encouraged to vote online from June 9th through June 30th for their Tigers favorite. All 30 winners, one representing each MLB Club, will be announced on July 10th. They will be included in All-Star Week festivities and recognized during the All-Star pregame ceremony leading up to the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field on July 16th on FOX. A &#8220;Tribute for Heroes&#8221; winner will be featured in PEOPLE magazine the week of the MLB All-Star Game.</p>
<p>The &#8220;Tribute For Heroes&#8221; campaign will support Welcome Back Veterans (welcomebackveterans.org, powered by MLB.com), an initiative of Major League Baseball and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, which addresses the needs of veterans after they return from service. Major League Baseball has committed more than $23 million for grants to hospitals and clinics that provide post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) treatment to veterans and their families in a public/private partnership with &#8220;Centers of Excellence&#8221; at university hospitals throughout the country.</p>
<p>The nomination deadline for &#8220;Tribute For Heroes&#8221; is May 17<sup>th</sup>.</p>

<p>On Saturday, the Tigers wore throwback uniforms of the Detroit Stars and the Braves suited up as the Atlanta Black Crackers during the 19th Annual Negro Leagues Tribute Game. The Annual Negro Leagues Weekend marks the first &#8211; and longest running &#8211; three-day celebration of its kind in Major League Baseball.</p>
<p>“<span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>I ended up where I was supposed to be once I got here</em></span>,” <strong>Larry</strong> <strong>Herndon</strong> said in a news conference.</p>
<p>The Detroit Tigers will payed tribute to several former Negro Leagues players and during a special pregame ceremony honored former Tigers outfielder and 1984 World Series Champion, <strong>Larry Herndon</strong>. <strong>Larry Herndon </strong>was presented the <strong>Detroit Tigers African American Legacy Award</strong>, sponsored by the Black McDonald&#8217;s Owners and Operators Association.</p>
<p>“<span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Very honored</em></span>, <span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>and it means a lot because of the guys who have gotten the award before me</em></span>,” <strong>Larry</strong> <strong>Herndon</strong> said.</p>

<p>The ceremony included a presentation of Testimonial Resolution to Herndon by Council President Pro Tempore Gary Brown. The African-American Legacy Award is designed to celebrate the contributions of African-American Detroit Tigers players to the rich history of Detroit Tigers baseball. The award was 1st presented in 2009 and the on-field ceremony and award presentation serve as the culminating activities to the Detroit Tigers annual Negro Leagues Weekend celebration.</p>
<p>“<span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>I knew what I bled</em></span>; <span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Tiger Blue</em></span>,”  <strong>Larry</strong> <strong>Herndon</strong> said.</p>
<p>The Detroit Tigers African-American Legacy Award honors current or former African-American Detroit Tigers for their influence on players of all races who followed in their footsteps.</p>
<p>The Detroit Tigers finish off a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves with an 8-3 victory and Detroit winning the three games in this series by a combined 25-7.</p>

<p>This marks the fifth time that Prince has garnered a weekly honor, his first in the A.L. He previously won four Player of the Week Awards in the National League while with the Milwaukee Brewers.</p>
<p>The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network. Fielder batted .632 (12-for-19) with four doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, five runs scored and nine walks in six games. During the week, the left-handed-hitting slugger led all Major League hitters in batting average, RBI, slugging percentage (1.158) and on-base percentage (.733), was second overall in walks, tied for second in doubles, third in hits and tied for third in total bases (22).</p>
<p>In recognition of his American League Player of the Week Award, Prince Fielder will be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.</p>

<p><em>The potential seven year $180 million deal would make Verlander the highest-paid pitcher in the game, sources said. A vesting option for an eighth year could push the deal to $202 million.</em></p>
<p>Verlander, 30, compiled a 17-8 record, 2.64 ERA (238.1IP/70ER) and 239 strikeouts in 33 starts with the Tigers during the 2012 season. He topped the American League with six complete games, 238.1 innings pitched and 239 strikeouts, while he finished second with a 2.64 ERA, .217 batting average against, 7.25 hits per nine innings and 3.98 strikeouts per walk, tied for third with 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings and tied for fourth with 17 wins.</p>
<p>“Justin is one of the premier pitchers in baseball and we are thrilled to keep him in a Tigers uniform for many years to come,” Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said. “Justin has been a Tiger for his entire career and he is on pace to be one of the greatest pitchers in this illustrious franchise’s history.”</p>
<p>A five-time American League all-star selection (2007, 2009-12), Verlander has posted a 124-65 record, 3.40 ERA (1,553.2IP/587ER) and 1,454 strikeouts in 232 starts during his major league career. Detroit’s first-round selection in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in 2004, he is currently fifth all-time in club history with 1,454 strikeouts and 10<sup>th</sup> with 124 wins.</p>
<p>Verlander was selected the American League Most Valuable Player and unanimously selected the American League Cy Young Award winner in 2011.</p>

<p>He became the 10<sup>th</sup> pitcher in major league history to win both the Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Awards during the same season, joining Don Newcombe (1956), Sandy Koufax (1963), Bob Gibson (1968), Denny McLain (1968), Vida Blue (1971), Rollie Fingers (1981), Guillermo Hernandez (1984), Roger Clemens (1986) and Dennis Eckersley (1992).</p>
<p>He was selected the American League Rookie of the Year with the Tigers in 2006. Verlander joined Don Newcombe to become only the second player in history to win the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year Awards. Newcombe was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1949 and he earned both the National League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Awards in 1956.</p>

<p>The club has traded catcher Curt Casali to the Tampa Bay Rays to retain the rights to Lobstein, a Rule 5 Draft selection.</p>
<p>Lobstein was selected by the New York Mets from Tampa Bay in the Rule 5 Draft on December 6, 2012, before he was traded to the Tigers organization in exchange for cash considerations following the draft.</p>
<p>Lobstein compiled an 8-7 record with a 4.06 ERA (144.0IP/65ER) and 129 strikeouts in 27 starts with<br />
Double A Montgomery in the Rays organization during the 2012 season. He finished second in the Southern League with 129 strikeouts.</p>
<p>Originally selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, he has posted a 30-30 record, 3.85 ERA (497.2IP/213ER) and 427 strikeouts in 92 outings (91 starts) in four seasons at the minor league level.</p>
<p>Casali saw action with both Single A Lakeland and Single A West Michigan during the 2012 season. He batted .288 (49&#215;170) with 12 doubles, eight home runs and 25 RBI in 48 games with West Michigan. Casali hit .250 (40&#215;160) with 13 doubles, a home run and 18 RBI in 46 games with Lakeland.</p>
<p>Casali&#8217;s contract will be assigned to Single A Port Charlotte by the Rays.</p>
