DETROIT – The NFL draft is less than a week away and with the 5th overall pick in the 1st round of the NFL draft, the Detroit Lions have an opportunity to fill some holes on offense/defense.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew On The 5th Overall Pick, QB Denard Robinson, LB Manti Te'o, Central Michigan T Eric Fisher & More

Detroit Lions Martin Mayhew(Vice President Of Football Operations and General Manager) discusses the fifth overall pick, former Michigan QB/WR Denard Robinson, visiting Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o, Central Michigan T Eric Fisher and more.

“I feel good about where we are right now,” Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said about where the Detroit Lions franchise is right now.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew stated that the organization has finished the vast majority of their draft preparation for the 2013 NFL draft. Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said that he has made probably about seven or eight draft visits and he projects the fifth pick to be worth $19-20 million over the first four years type of deal.

“I thought the meetings were very, very productive” and “We’re excited about the process and excited about getting going next week,” Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew believes that everyone from the coaching staff and scouts understand exactly the type of players that will help the organization moving forward.

“When you’re at five, you can have a pretty good idea of six, seven names that might be there at five” and “I think you expect that at five” and “I think that’s an expectation,” Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said about how much more certainty there is with the fifth overall pick and if the fifth overall pick has to start the first year.

Former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson was a star on the football field for the University of Michigan and he may have to make the transition from QB to WR/Returner in-order to have a successful professional career.

“He’s working hard and improving” and “He’s sort of got those slash qualities as a receiver, possibly a slot receiver and a half back,” Detroit Lions Martin Mayhew(Vice President Of Football Operations and General Manager) said about former Michigan QB Denard Robinson.

One of the many highlights of his career was leading the Wolverines to a 2012 Sugar Bowl 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in OT.

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o is a natural born leader and some believe that he will have an huge NFL impact. The Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o is someone who has faced personal tragedy, competed at the highest level in college football and was considered by many to be the nation’s “best” defensive player.

“It was great” and “Very smart guy, very smart football player, very personable and a great personality” and “He’s just a great leader in his program,” Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said about his visit with Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o last week.

(Manti Te’ ILB Notre Dame, Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

If the Detroit Lions chose to draft Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker Manti Te’o in the 2013 NFL draft, they would be getting a proven leader who has natural athletic gifts and leadership qualities along with his high motor and excellent defensive performances.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said that he is not sure if he is going to acknowledge at offensive tackle or defensive end.

“We met with him at the combine, spent some time with him at the Senior Bowl” and ”Great young man and a very talented young man,” Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said about Central Michigan T Eric Fisher.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said that he does not like to talk about the Detroit Lions needs too much. Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew said that he follows draft trade rumors to keep up on what’s going on around the league and what people are saying and that he will be making calls this weekend and he thinks there will be a lot of movement in the draft.

“We’re barely scratching the surface. … I’m really excited about the direction this [offense] can go,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said.

Nash will potentially be out a week with a leg fracture. The Lakers did not use the loss of point guard Steve Nash as an excuse and relied on the dominant play of Dwight Howard who went for 28 points on [12/14 shooting] along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

After losing 108-79 at STAPLES Center on Sunday night, the Detroit Pistons drop to 0-3 for the season. Jonas Jerebko lead the Detroit Piston with 18 points. Five Lakers scored in double-figures!
