Sweden advances to the semifinals to meet neighboring Finland on Saturday after eliminating  Canada 3-2 Thursday night,  at the world hockey championships in Stockholm. It was Sweden’s Fredrik Pettersson who would score the winning point in the fourth round of the shootout. The United States who cruised past Russia 8-3  will  meet Switzerland in the other semifinal. The world hockey championships final will be held on Sunday.

Henrik Zetteberg and the Detroit Red Wings marked off  22 consecutive seasons with a playoff appearance after defeating the Dallas Stars 3-0 on Saturday night. Zetterbreg finished the night with 2 goals and 1 assists. Jonathan Ericsson also scored   for the Red Wings, who own the longest active playoff streak in major professional sports, six years longer than the San Antonio Spurs’ stretch of postseason play in the NBA. It’s the lowest playoff seed for the Red Wings since the NHL moved to the 1 vs. 8 conference format in 1993. The will most likely face Anahiem in the first round.

The Detroit Red Wings got a shutout from goalie Jimmy Howard who had 21 saves. Red Wings players Jakub Kindl and Cory Emmerton scored goals in the 2nd period, to help the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 at home.

Joakim Andersson Scores 2 Goals; Detroit Red Wings Win 8 – 3, Against The Vancouver Canucks

The Detroit Red Wings are 2-1 during their current three game home stretch, losing 3-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets with 24.7 second remaining in the 3rd period and the Red Wings defeated the Nashville Predators 4-0.

“Happy about our effort today,”  said Swedish born player Joakim Andersson.

The Detroit Red Wings got a great performance from Damien Brunner who scored 2 goals and assisted on two goals. Swedish born Joakim Andersson scored two goals and the multi-talented Niklas Kronwall scored 1 goal, while assisting on two goals.

Jimmy Howard Made 33 Saves; Detroit Red Wings Win 4 - 0 Against The Nashville Predators

The Red Wings dominated the ice early and never gave up their lead, like previous loses.

Goalie Jimmy Howard made 33 saves and the Red Wings defeated the Nashville Predators 4-0. Niklas Kronwall played great scoring one goal, while assisting on two goals.

The Red Wings will compete at Joe Louis Arena on February 24th verses the Vancouver Canucks.

Vinny Prospal Scores With 24.7 Remaining; Columbus Blue Jackets Defeat Detroit Red Wings 3 - 2

With players gliding across the ice and battling to make the final “big” play of the third period, the final seconds ran down at Joe Louis Arena.

With all eyes on the puck and the scoreboard, Vinny Proposal(was part of a 3-2), that gave the Columbus Blue Jackets their 2nd straight win over the Detroit Red Wings.

With an assist from Wisniewski, the 38 year old Vinny Prospal(16th season) made the decisive goal to give Columbus a 3-2 victory with 24.7 seconds remaining in the 3rd period. For Vinny Proposal, the game winning goal was his 6th goal of the season.
