Helen Findley from Malmo’s hottest urban radio station Din Gata 100.6 sat down with Stockholm’s own  “ They Know You“ for  a brief interview. The group which consists of  members Christopher Martland Ristic, Johan Gunterberg, TOR and  DJ-HUNK are responsible for tracks like Bad Boyz, Haterz, and Boy Band.

Jackson Jr.(Atlanta), Earnest N. Morial(New Orleans), Walter E. Washington(Washington D.C.) and Coleman A. Young(Detroit) who were all Mayor’s of their respective cities. Berry Gordy Jr.(Motown), Earl G. Graves(Black Enterprise Magazine), Joe Young Sr.(Detroit), David Mitchell(Detroit), Robert E. James(President National Bankers Assn.), Charles C. Bookert, M.D(President National Medical Assn.) and Carlton B. Goodlett, M.D.(President National Newspaper Publishers Assn.).

“AT&T believes it is important to support the communities that we do business in” and “We have made a 500 million dollar investment in improving the high school graduation rates in this country,” Jennifer Jones(vice president of Diverse Markets, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets) said.

Woodlawn Post had the honor of attending AT&T’s 28 Days 2013 press conference and Speakers Series event. The virtual press conference that introduced AT&T Executive Jennifer Jones(Detroit) and included host Rickey Smiley(Atlanta), key note speaker MC LYTE(Los Angeles), and key note speaker Corvida Raven(NYC), along with key note speaker Kevin Powell(D.C). AT&T ended it’s 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series with host Rickey Smiley, keynote speaker Jeff Johnson and R & B singer Elle Varner in Detroit with a focus on “excellence“.

AT&T Executive Jennifer Jones reminded us with AT&T 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series, what can be accomplished when brilliant minds work togther for a common goal. AT&T 28 Days reminds us all that studying our ‘Rich” history is good for us. This is the 3rd year of AT&T doing the Speaker Series and the launch of the high-profile event AT&T 28 Days Speaker Series, is monumental for Black History.

AT&T Executive Jennifer Jones recently told Woodlawn Post that, “AT&T believes in being good corporate citizens” and “it is their pleasure to have a focus on black history month.”

AT&T is a brand based on excellence and Black History is based on excellence. I learned that staying driven and around excellence individuals, will increase the chances of improving my community, my family life and success rate.

AT&T 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series kicked off in Washington, D.C. on February 7th with host Rickey Smiley and keynote speaker Kevin Powell. AT&T ended it’s 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series with host Rickey Smiley, keynote speaker Jeff Johnson and R & B singer Elle Varner in Detroit with a focus on “excellence“.

Keynote speaker Jeff Johnson used a unique combination of realism/knowledge to inspire the Detroit audience and he communicated his message about being business savvy and more knowledgable about the Black History Month.

“We come from a legacy of excellence” and “We come from a legacy of greatness,” Jeff Johnson said about having a intellectual renaissance based on Black excellence and forwardness.

Keynote speaker Jeff Johnson said that we should be engaged in what happens in our community, school board elections, local elections, voting for mayoral candidates and that we have the ability tap into our business spirit to control the resources/wealth in our community.

Keynote speaker Jeff Johnson spoke about conquering racism by working harder and in honor of those pioneers before us, we need to stride for “excellence“.

“One industry cannot maintain the economic base of a city” and “We don’t have time to play,” Jeff Johnson said about Detroit’s current public education failure, poverty and more.

Host Rickey Smiley discussed his past experiences and how he got involved with the civil rights movement during the riots in Mobile, Alabama.

“I love to drop knowledge” and “Sharing our history with our young people,” Rickey Smiley said during the Press Conference.

Host Rickey Smiley spoke about using his media platform as a way to influence and inspire others after his duration with AT&T’s 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series is over. ”Best speaker that I ever heard in my life” and “I will have him on my morning show for one morning,” Rickey Smiley said about key note speaker Jeff Johnson.

R & B singer Elle Vernar song her hit song, “Can I get I Refill” and she had an amazing voice.

“My music is pretty unique” and “My mom is a huge inspiration,” R & B singer Elle Vernar said when asked about who inspired her musical gift.

R & B singer Elle Vernar proved that you can “make it” in the music business with having a great voice and socially responsible music content.

“I believe that I can be one of the positive voices of my generation, for women and especially young girls,” singer Elle Vernar said about writing her “hip hop folk music” that has an R& B undertone and is socially conscience.

After the Black History program concluded, their was a Q & A session with R& B singer Elle Varner, keynote speaker Jeff Johnson and AT&T Executive Jennifer Jones. Each accomplished individual, communicated with different media outlets about their careers, AT&T’s 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series and more!

“If we can inspire anyone in that audience to think different about their tomorrow” and “See a different vision of themselves,” Jennifer Jones(vice president of Diverse Markets, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets) said about AT&T’s wanted to accomplish with the AT&T 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series during the Press Conference.

The CEO of The Ajamu Group, Cheryl Parks Ajamu was also apart of the post event photo opportunities.

Overall, it was a great opportunity to be in the presence of such successful and humble people. Keynote speaker Jeff Johnson who is recognized as a pioneer in the world of social activism, was impressive with his passion about Black History! R & B singer Elle Vernar proved that you can write socially responsible music content and have a supportive fan base. While comedian Rickey Smiley was funny, he minded us about his personal dedication to Black History! AT&T Executive Jennifer Jones reminded us with AT&T 28 Days 2013 Speaker Series, what can be accomplished when brilliant minds work togther for a common goal!
