DETROIT and NASHVILLE, Tenn. – General Motors Co. and Nissan announced today the companies have signed an agreement for Nissan to produce a small cargo vehicle that GM will sell in the United States and Canada.

@GM to Source Small Cargo Vehicle from Nissan for U.S., Canada Markets

GM will procure the vehicle from Nissan and distribute it through the Chevrolet dealer network. GM expects the Chevrolet City Express, based on the Nissan NV200, to be available for sale in the fall of 2014.

“Our fleet customers have asked us for an entry in the commercial small van segment, so this addition to the Chevrolet portfolio will strengthen our position with fleets and our commercial customers,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales.

Joe Castelli, Nissan vice president, commercial vehicles and fleet added, “Working with partners to expand markets for our innovative products enhances Nissan’s growth and manufacturing efficiency by leveraging our capacity to meet growing demand in this space.”

Nissan currently sells a version of the vehicle as the NV200 in numerous markets globally, including the United States and Canada. The Nissan NV200, a spacious-yet-compact commercial vehicle, is a previous winner of the International Van of the Year Award. Cost of ownership for the vehicle is among the lowest in the class due to low running costs, the high efficiency of the engines and drivetrains and a safety structure that helps to minimize crash damage.

The price of the Chevrolet City Express will be announced later.

This pioneering driver education program is the first of its kind in Canada. It incorporates proprietary best practices and curriculum from other established Mercedes-Benz driving schools around the world with proven intensive coaching methods that are uniquely personalized to Canadian students.

“The skills required to simply get a licence do not fully prepare young drivers to meet the harsh demands of the road.” and “Our exclusive, in-depth coaching methods were developed as a direct result of the cutting-edge research conducted through the High impact approach for Enhancing Road safety through More Effective communication Skills (HERMES) project,” said Alexander J. Hobbach, Global Head of Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy.

The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers offers a full spectrum of driver education and training programs that delve well-beyond simply learning the basic traffic regulations and fundamental driving techniques necessary for novice drivers to obtain their licence. A proven combination of classroom, in-car, and ground-breaking online education sessions will equip new drivers with a broad scope of skills and core competencies that are crucial for safe and enjoyable motoring.

“Our techniques have proven to be extremely effective in other markets around the world, and we are pleased to work with the highly-skilled team in Canada to establish the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers in Vancouver,” said Alexander J. Hobbach, Global Head of Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy.

The comprehensive and holistic approach to driver education and training focuses on a significant range of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and risk factors to fully prepare students for the many demanding situations they will face behind the wheel. In addition to developing the core skills of vehicle operation, control and driving in traffic, the graduated licencing program (GLP Program), priced at a competitive price of $1290, features specific active-learning modules that highlight typical risk factors for novice drivers, including how each individual’s personality and lifestyle can influence their driving and personal safety.

“Safe drivers are responsible drivers, and this sense of responsibility can be developed in the driver training process if the learner is empowered to make decisions, recognize threats and identify his or her own goals,” said John Jacobsen, General Manager, Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers.

The program’s unique and exclusive e-learning and personal risk assessment modules will provide participants a thorough understanding of risk awareness. This technologically-advanced approach, which incorporates online learning, is the first of its kind. In fact, the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers is the only school to receive approval for an online training component from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).

“Our revolutionary coaching approach immediately increases the sense of responsibility within the new driver when they are in the car, while our world-class instructors and intensive quality assurance programs ensure that each student is empowered to become a safe and responsible driver,” said John Jacobsen, General Manager, Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers.

In close collaboration with the global Driving Academy team at Mercedes-Benz in Germany, the new Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers will be operated by Vancouver-based Driving Unlimited, a long-time partner of Mercedes-Benz Canada. Driving Unlimited is well-known by customers across Canada as it also operates several other highly successful advanced driving programs including the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy and AMG Driving Academy.

“For more than 125 years, Mercedes-Benz has established its reputation for consistent innovation and has introduced many sophisticated safety and advanced driver assistance systems that have helped make our roads much safer,” said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada.

The experienced team of coaches is comprised of some of the most qualified facilitators, trainers and advanced driving instructors in the industry. These accomplished professionals will ensure that every student receives the highest level of training and enjoys an experience that is truly commensurate with the brand.

“While these ground-breaking safety systems may have dramatically improved safety, there is still room for further improvement and they can never fully replace the importance of proper driver training,” said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada.

The Vancouver market was selected to first launch this comprehensive new driver education and training program.

Reuss continued: “We have come a long way, but in our fast-paced society, safe driving still remains a very important skill.” and “Over 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human error. These staggering results demonstrate the critical need for this type of rigorous coaching for new drivers.

The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers will serve the entire Lower Mainland from Abbotsford to West Vancouver, with classroom training sessions conveniently located at four Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Vancouver (Boundary Road), Surrey,Richmond and North Vancouver.

“We are extremely proud to bring this revolutionary approach to driver education and training to Vancouver“ and “We are confident that it will go a long way in helping prepare new drivers to face the many demands they will encounter as we strive towards our ultimate vision of accident free motorin,” Reuss said.

Training will also take place at the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy for New Drivers’ offices in Pitt Meadows, BC.

TORONTO — General Motors announced a $250 million investment in the CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. The investment will be used to install flexible body shop equipment and tooling, converting the manufacturing facility to support future vehicle production.

GM Canada Announces $250 Million Investment for CAMI Assembly

“Conversion of the CAMI Assembly Plant to a flexible manufacturing facility will provide CAMI with the ability to produce multiple global architectures and body styles,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director, General Motors of Canada. “Continually improving the flexibility of our manufacturing operations helps us respond quickly to customer needs and market demand.”

“We have had a strong start to 2013 with customer demand for our newest vehicles driving improved sales,” added Williams. “This is strong confirmation that our investing in manufacturing flexibility, finding ways to bring new products to market faster, is the right strategy.”

Manufacturing flexibility is a key priority for General Motors, and this investment will give CAMI the ability to build a higher variety of differentiated products, on multiple platforms, at much lower costs. This also gives GM the ability to introduce and deliver new products to the market at a faster pace.

GM is rapidly moving toward more flexible vehicle architectures, which will reduce assembly plant complexity, increase plant efficiencies and enhance our ability to quickly adjust product mix to better manage our customer’s needs.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the coming weeks.

Headquartered in Oshawa, Ontario, General Motors of Canada Limited (GMCL) employs more than 9,000 people across the country and is a recognized leader in green manufacturing. GMCL markets the full range of fuel-efficient Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles and related services through Canada’s largest automotive dealer network.

More information regarding GMCL models can be found at www.gm.ca, or by following @GMCanada on Twitter.

TORONTO – Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest car brands. The 2014 Chevrolet Stingray made its Canadian debut at an exclusive premiere event on the eve of the Canadian International Auto Show.

2014 Corvette Stingray Displayed During Canadian International Auto Show debut in Toronto

The seventh generation Corvette is redefining modern performance and only a Corvette with the perfect balance of technology, design and performance can wear the iconic Stingray designation.

“The Corvette is a vehicle that evokes a truly passionate response from customers,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director, General Motors of Canada. “For 60 years Corvette has represented the state-of-the-art in performance cars. Everything it stands for has captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands of car lovers and enthusiasts around the globe.”

The new Corvette couldn’t be a Stingray unless the new car truly lived up to the legacy. The result is a new Corvette Stingray that breaks from tradition, while remaining instantly recognizable as a Corvette the world over.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm). It is also the most capable standard model ever, able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than four seconds and achieve more than 1g in cornering grip. It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model.

The 2014 Corvette delivers the fastest acceleration, the most cornering grip, the most track capability, the best braking performance and what we expect to be the best fuel efficiency ever for a standard Corvette. It incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs. The result is better performance by every measure.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013.
