Tatiana Barbosa on giving back, “I am involved with Oxfam America” and “Working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice.”

WP: When can your fans expect a Tatiana Barbosa LP? What artist’s and producer’s did you collaborate with on this project?

TATIANA BARBOSA: I’m working on an album as we speak. My team and I don’t have a set date on when it will be released just yet! Some producer’s that I have had the privilege of working with are Michael Boykin, Rodney Lester, Fred Jerkins III and his son Freddie Jerkins IV. As well as some very talented writers from the Philadelphia area.

WP: You mentioned that your music style is a “little bit of everything” and that you do not “stick to one type of style”. What can you fans expect from your new LP and what style of music reflects this project?

TATIANA BARBOSA: This upcoming project is a little mixture of Pop and Urban music. You’ll here some up-tempo fun tracks but then we also have some ballads that I think a lot of people can relate to.

WP: Are you a big movie fan? Who are some of your actors? What are some of your favorite television shows?

TATIANA BARBOSA: I am a big movie fan. My sister and I usually watch movies in our spare time. Rachel McAdams and Jennifer Lawrence are my favorite actresses and two of my favorite actors are Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. I do not really watch television and when I do my favorite tv show has to be The Vampire Diaries. I am obsessed with the The Vampire Diaries show and can never miss an episode of The Vampire Diaries!

WP: Have you began to dive into the world of acting? As an aspiring actor, what fashion label would you choose from your “Splash Style“ if you were to attend the Oscars?

TATIANA BARBOSA: I definitely want to get into acting. It has always been another passion of mine. However, I have not yet. I have been offered a few opportunities to act, but my music just keeps me so busy right now that I don’t have time to focus on anything else. If I were to attend the Oscars, I would have chosen a beautiful gown by Dior Couture after seeing the beautiful gown that Jennifer Lawrence wore of theirs this year at the Oscars.

WP: You inspire people with your singing(original & cover songs), what do you hope too accomplish with you musical gift of writing, singing, recording and performing over your career?

TATIANA BARBOSA: There is a lot I want to accomplish. Of course I want to have a very successful career, but I want to write and make music that others can relate to. I’m a very real person so I want my music to reflect that.

Tatiana Barbosa: I also want to inspire others to go after and chase their dreams despite what anyone else has to say. It’s really important to me to get that message out to my supporters because I know what it’s like to have people try to crush your dreams and say that you can’t do something. If I would have listened to those people I wouldn’t be where I am now!

WP: In terms of philantropy, what organizations are you involved with? How do you balance family, career, school and giving back?

TATIANA BARBOSA: An organization I am involved with is Oxfam America. Oxfam America is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. We save lives, develop long-term solutions to poverty, and campaign for social change. If people buy my music on reverbnation a percentage goes towards the organization. I also take part in various “Stop The Violence” campaigns throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Tatiana Barbosa: As far as balancing everything, it’s not as hard as it seems. I just make sure I stay focused and I have my family and friends who help and support me.

WP: What’s next for you in terms of your music career in 2013, 2014? Have any labels shown interest?

TATIANA BARBOSA: As far as what’s next for me, I am just working on my album, lots of performing, working on my upcoming video shoots and photo shoots, and really just continuing to get my name out there. There have been a number of labels that have shown interests but we’re keeping that on the hush for the time being.

WP: On the artist development and album production side, how many days of the week are you recording in the studio and working with vocal training, dance routine’s and work outs led by our coach?

TATIANA BARBOSA: I’m usually in artist development once or twice a week and with studio time it literally feels like I live in the booth, because I’m always there…lol

WP: If you could receive advice from one artist, male and or female on writing songs and performing for the world, who would that artists be?

TATIANA BARBOSA: It would have to be Beyonce. I personally think that Beyonce is one of the greatest female performers out there. She definitely knows how to put on a show! If Michael Jackson was still here he would definitely be another artist because he too knew how to put on a show and all his music is timeless!

WP: For those readers who have not visited your fan page, can you tell us a little about how you got started?

TATIANA BARBOSA: Well I’ve been singing since I was little. My sister and I use to always put on shows for our parents. Then one year at my high school talent show and I performed for the first time in front of a huge crowd and got a great response and positive feedback. From that day on I just knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Since then I’ve just continued to write songs, perform, started recording and putting videos on youtube, and eventually just met the right people to help me with my career.

WP: How can our reader’s and your fans contact you on social media?

TATIANA BARBOSA: You can follow me on twitter @IamTatiB, ”Like” my fan page on Facebook, facebook.com/tatianabarbosafanpage as well as check out my videos on youtube! youtube.com/tatianabarbosa18

Jarell Perry: Whiskey’s just a song about letting go with your friends after a long day. It could be in the middle of the week, in the middle of the day…where ever you are. I was partly inspired by my college years and the short time after where all we wanted to do was kick-back at a dive bar and shoot darts with the truckers. That kinda simplicity is refreshing in a place like L.A.

Jarell Perry: That collaboration came out of no where through some mutual contacts and started out really as an experiment for me. I’ve done a few international collabs in the past couple of years but this one was one of my favorites. I’m hoping to get a ticket out to Sweden soon.

WP: You mentioned Usher’s passion when he’s on stage or in the studio. Can you discuss your latest performance at the key club on January 17th and how you have benefited from working with great performer’s? Where do you see yourself in 2013, 2014?

Jarell Perry: There’s a certain magnetic energy that embodies certain people – they don’t ever have to get in the zone. Because they are the zone. The zone is where-ever they are. That’s my goal right now. I’m in a crazy period of growth and I just want to keep it like that for as long as possible. Just exponential growth in the music, in the messages, and in the performances.

WP: You have been busy in the studio crafting records with hit producers, writing, rehearsing for upcoming showsand traveling the world? Can you discuss your career and what’s new for Jarell Perry, [both as a singer and songwriter]?

Jarell Perry: It’s about to explode. That’s all I have to say!

WP: Can you discuss your project in full detail(production/writing) and what can your fans expect from your upcoming LP release in 2013? How is this EP relevant to where you are as an artist today and moving forward?

Jarell Perry: It’s all really just unexpected stuff from an R&B perspective. Playing with a lot of electronic sounds and bending the rules a bit on the writing. But you’ll always be able to find the soul in it. And that’s kinda the story of my life. I’ve always been able to switch back and forth between different scenes, but I never lose the root of who I am as an artist and I’m always guarding my integrity in that sense.

WP: You have been fortunate to work with producer’s Hassy B (“Here We Go Again,” “Lady Gaga“) and Manifest Music. What other producer’s are you currently with?

Jarell Perry: For Simple Things, I’m keeping the team small and close-knit for a purpose. But on the next project which we are already working on, there will be some people you know. I just can’t say right now.

WP: What are the typical demands for a successful songwriter? What advice do you have for those interested in a songwriting career?

Jarell Perry: It’s hard to rush genius but that’s basically what you’re tasked with as a writer. Put your creativity on a conveyor belt and bang these songs out like a machine. But that’s the only way you learn and get better. It takes a lot of listening too, I think people forget that sometimes. You have to be a good listener. With your heart and your ears.

GEORGIA –

From a fans perspective, every so often a new and amazing music artist comes onto the music scene and takes the industry by storm! But, with that talent comes hard work and dedicated long hours in the studio rehearsing and laying down vocals for songs. Then there are the long hours in the gym training ones body in preparation for performances.

The word “Diva” puts an artist in selective company and you must have a competitive spirit, patience and a tireless and proven work ethic to separate oneself in a competitive music industry. If an artist can have the balance of an great work ethic, attitude and support from the “Unstoppable Machine“, when it comes to setting the pace for talent and growth, you can have the Recipe For A Successful Music Career.

The key to this unparalleled success in the music industry lies both in the talent of the artist, the supporting cast that helps with the development and the dedicated team of writers, producers, vocal coaches, PR, choreographers, band members, engineers and mangers who focus on the incredible growth of the artist and it reflects the business and in the music that’s made.

In saying that, Woodlawn Post’s Adrian Mitchell got the opportunity to interview up and coming R & B singer Sheryl Boyd, who was born and raised in South Carolina and resides in Atlanta. The talented R & B singer Sheryl Boyd recently graced the stage and performed during the Atlanta Labor Day Music Festival along with artist’s Fantasia, Joe, Dru Hill & Tony Terry and she was one of three key background vocalist’s for Tyler Perry’s “A Christmas Play”.

Sheryl Boyd During Labor Day Music Festival; Square Biz Photography

Woodlawn Post’s Adrian Mitchell had the honor of interviewing Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin who is an Detroit East Catholic Alumni and is well received in the Metro Detroit community for the work that he does with young men and women. When Mr. Baldwin is not mentoring our youth, he is using his passion and young wisdom by spreading the word of GOD and healing souls.

Minister And Mentor Alejandro Baldwin (Detroit East Catholic Alumni)

WP: Congratulations on your success and it makes it that much special considering that you are an fellow EC Alumni. How many years have you been in Ministry?

Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin: Thank you so much! It is a privilege to be a graduate of EC (East Catholic). If I may say so in my mind the class of 1997 was one of the greatest classes to come out of EC. Of course I’m sure classes will say otherwise lol. However I am proud to be an East Catholic Alumnus. Well I have been in ministry for about 17 years. I preached my first sermon when I was about 18 while I was attending East Catholic as a senior. I have been working as a mentor since 2001 I believe. I started mentoring a few of the students at the school I worked at during that time and it has blossomed into a program now.

WP: How have you been so successful at mentoring and capturing the attention of young minds, with so many distractions today for students?

Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin: That is a good question. I believe it is important to show youth that their voice is important and that it needs to be heard. My goal is to help them understand that within them is the God given gift and ability to literally change the world. When you give youth the chance to express those gifts, you have their attention. Mentoring is simply a fancy word for a relationship. As a mentor you listen, you understand, you guide them into making the right decisions. You have to earn their trust and respect, by being transparent with who you are. One of the greatest assets that I have is that I am transparent with my story. Who I am today was in part to a cast of people who believed in me and pushed me to be my best. I think all of those things can fall under a relationship.

It also helps that the challenges that youth face today (drugs, violence, fatherlessness, etc.) are things that I had to face growing up!

If you show youth who they are and what they have, the world needs then that gives them a weapon to combat the distractions and challenges they face in life!

WP: What’s new for your Church and organization? What new event’s and mentoring opportunities do you have in the near future?

Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin: As for my church, we are really focusing on doing programming that will empower the community we are in. One of my favorite scriptures that speaks to this is Luke 17:21. It simply says “Neither shall they say Lo here! Or Lo there! For behold the Kingdom of God is within you.” What that means to me is that God has placed within us His Kingdom, or the means to release His will on this earth. Christ taught that the conditions we live in now do not have to stay this way. We are called to have better and live better as well as help each other. So my focus in ministry and within my mentoring program is to help people realize that God has given them the keys they need to change their lives and their world for the better. More specifically I along with other wonderful people are putting together an event called “Conversations with Brothers.” The focus is to get together community stakeholders (parents, clergy, government officials, youth, and educators) and have conversations on how WE as a people can help our black males be successful academically and personally. Our first conference was last summer and it was a huge success. So our hope is to build off of that with this conference. We will be specifically dealing with juvenile black males who are adjudicated (court involved). Right now we are in the planning stages but the meeting will be Summer 2013.

WP: You are in a business of healing souls and educating the populous. As a brilliant young African American male, how have you been able to stay focused on healing and helping other’s and doing GODS work?

Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin: Well to be honest, God has been the source for me. I understand that what I do, mentoring and all, is a part of ministry. I learned from a young age, that when someone helps you then you are obligated to help someone else. I am just at a point in my life where I enjoy being a blessing to people because it blesses me to bless them. This is what we are supposed to do, this is what God called us to do.

WP: How can those seeking to become mentor’s and help students contact you and take advantage of your mentoring opportunities?

Minister and Mentor Alejandro Baldwin: If anyone is interested in learning more about my program, it is called Greater Works Youth Empowerment and the web address is: www.gwyeleadership.com. My email address is acbaldwin@gwyeleadership.com.

Calvin Mann also had one of his T- shirts featured on MTV’s popular show “Run’s House“, worn by Jo Jo during a Kidd Rock featured episode.

WP: Can you discuss the Annual Good Fathers Only Labor Day Parade March for Fatherhood and it’s mission?

Calvin Mann: The labor day walk was a celebration in joint with the million fathers march. This was our fourth year and we wanted to continue to share fatherhood with Detroit and all of the union families. The men were chanting and other men and groups like Better Detroit Youth Movement whom is a partner of ours share in our fatherhood goals. Next year we will reach 500 fathers!

WP: Can you discuss what it really means to have great families, and how it effect’s schools, cities and neighborhood’s in Metro Detroit?

Calvin Mann: Families have to be a stabilizing force in all communities, its the one thing that effects education, economic growth andsustaining communities. In the black community we suffer from so many things and our children suffer from this very thing. We can off set alot of this with fatherhood resources to better prepare new, old and existing fathers getting better. That was the real good part of the march was the fatherhood pledge that was taken and it went, “Today I Pledge to get better, do better, and be the best 24/7 dad” and it truly was powerful!

Calvin Mann: Fathers want and are getting better, as we wake up! Society says that good mothers should not raise children alone and they have all the negative statistics to prove that children need both parents to be together in raising them. Fathers and mothers must parent together, and I like to call it parental friendship.

WP: Can you discuss why you devote your time to mentoring and coaching young African American men and speak up for African Americans?

Calvin Mann: This is such a thing for me because when I was a kid I witnessed how having positive adults in your life can help influence your dreams! When I failed at going to college, I had to repair my life! So, I got involved in coaching by way of Jim Curry Sr who was my mentor! Jim Curry Sr (God father) gave me a whistle and the rest just happened! I began coaching in 1986 and never looked back! Some of the men who we coached currently sit at major universities like Dewayne Stephens MSU and Cornell Mann Iowa St just to name a few…

Calvin Mann: Mentoring is a by product of coaching and more men can help if they could just give a little honest time to a young child! Being a black man has shown me that I am a Good Man just by giving to the next generation. It so important to our cultural leacy to inspire the greatness that is inside of every black child should be taught the basics, reading, writing, music, health, andcreativity. I always speak life into them! In 2011, once a month at Finney High School we pushed, inspired, and loved the young men and this made me feel really responsible for sharing the truth with them to do more. Its my culture and I have to do more to help these young men grow in love.

WP: Can you discuss the significant role and mentor and coach plays in the life of African American males who’s father is not present?

Calvin Mann: Fact is there are not any negatives when men are involved or raising the children. Fathers are extremly important in children lives! This is why it is so important to heal and raise good young men. Many children and men are broken today which is what is fueling Black culture failures in areas ofliteracy, prison rates, death toll of young, and constant bartering away of our resources through self ignorance. We are hard working, loving, and good parents when we have the basics in place.

WP: You have been praised for your service in Detroit and recgognized nationally. What is the goal of Good Fathers Only? What new event do you have in the near future?

Calvin Mann: Well considering what we have done, I feel that we could accomplish more, if we had more money and resources. Our Non profit Encourage Me I’m Young Inc.(www.emiyworld.com) is recruiting leaders and we need a good leader right now to handle our Good Fathers Only Group and we are currently looking for young males 6-12 year olds for our Emiy All Stars Mentoring Basketball Team. We are searching for sponsorship funds to do tournaments and our reading challenge in January 2013. My company Good Fathers Only LLC is our retail resource company and it is currently housing our products on our site (www.thegoodfathersonly.com) and is collecting fatherhood resources as we speak. Im taking a business course starting Oct 18th 2012, with DHive a non profit set up to help businesses excel in Detroit.

WP: How can other’s get involved and learn more about your programs, events and more?

Calvin Mann: I’m so happy you asked, because we need web site management, program leaders, male mentors, volunteers, and sales leadership for our product’s. They can easily get involved by visiting our sites an sending message or send email to emiyinc@gmail.com orgoodfathersonlyllc@gmail. I want them to know that, we cannot build alone and we need the talent and leadership our children! All children are far to important to not have our vision come to life. Yes sir, I still lay shirts where kids have been killed all over the city, its been 8yrs, its just what God wanted me to do.

Calvin Mann: I leave you with the quote the kids and women wore in the march “Beautiful is the only way to say Family and Encourage Me I’m Young”, Thank You!

Woodlawn Post’s Adrian Mitchell got the opportunity to interview Toronto artist JD Era, protegé of Wu-Tang Clan legend Raekwon(of Raekwon’s Ice H2O label). He discusses his latest mix-tape ”No Handouts” that feature’s appearances and production from Raekwon, Mac Miller, Rich Kidd, 9th Wonder, Ayah and more.

JD Era on signing with Raekwon’s Ice H2O label: I grew up listening to Wu-tang, so to be signed by him has been a crazy experience…

He talks about writing music, Drake opening doors for artist from Toronto, his Chemistry with Raekwon & much more!

WP: For those Hip Hop fans outside of Canada are not familiar with JD Era. Can you discuss you affiliation with Ice H20, Raekwon, Wu-Tang Clan and how it started?

JD Era: I’m Raekwon’s young gun! We met about a year ago, when I heard he was looking to sign an artist to his Ice H20 imprint and we just had a great chemistry. I grew up listening to Wu-tang, so to be signed by him has been a crazy experience.

WP: As a canadian artist, how has the national Music Video station’s like MuchMusic supported your career? Toronto DJ’s? Clubs?

JD Era: Their support has been key to me building up my career nationally. There isn’t many outlets in Canada for urban music so it’s been important.

WP: You dropped your Ice H20 debut mix-tape “No Handouts” with 13-Tracks on April 16th 2012 with features from Raekwon, Mac Miller, Rich Kidd, 9th Wonder, Ayah and more. How has the project been received by your fans and industry piers?

JD Era: The response for No Handouts has been crazy! Especially at home in Toronto. It’s been really organic in how it’s spreading online and in the streets. I think it’s showing my fans and people in the industry a different side of me and my growth from my battle days and past mixtapes.

WP: Writing is different for each artist, how do approach writing a ‘hit’ song?

JD Era: I write most of my songs feeding off of the beat. The production usually dictates what I’m gonna write about. I write songs for myself not so much to have a hit.

WP: How is it working with and for Raekwon? Does having Raekwon as a Boss/mentor add pressure for your mix-tape’s and future LP/album success?

JD Era: Working with Raekwon has been a learning experience. He’s been in the game for 20 years so his ear for music is on point. Having him as a boss definitely adds pressure to all my projects. But, this is what I’ve worked so hard for, so I’m excited. I just want to create my own classic.

WP: Does the success of Drake make it easier for Canadian artist too have their music heard by industry executives and expand your fans base in the US?

JD Era: I think his success opened a lot of people’s eyes but at the end of the day talent is always going to stand out regardless of where the person is from.

WP: Back in 201o on your Th1rt3en (Mixtape), you had features from Freddie Gibbs, Drake, Saukrates and more. In terms of growth as an artist, how is “No Handouts” different from that project that featured several talented Toronto artist?

JD Era: Th1rt3en for me was more about the bars and just showing people that I was a lyricist. No Handouts is more about the music and showing my fans that I could make great songs for them to ride to. I really wanted to take it up a level not just as a rapper but as an artist.

WP: You have collaborated with several top Toronto MC’s and several U.S mainstream artist’s. How do you to remain true to your Canadian fans, while growing you fan base?

JD Era: I really just focus on making the best quality music. My fans have been loyal to me because of my consistency so regardless of where they are from I just have to stay true to that.

WP: Who are you collaborating with on your future LP/album? Producer’s? artist?

JD Era: I’m looking forward to getting into the studio with a lot of up and coming rappers. I think Action Bronson is dope. Freddie Gibbs and Reek Da Villain. I’m just ready to go bar for bar with a couple heavyweights and make the most of this opportunity.

WP: How can artist contact you and find your work?

JD Era: You can contact me at jderabookings@gmail.com and send music to beats4era@gmail.com

INTERVIEW PART II:

WP: Fresh from completing a mixtape with Dj Young Mase, you recently dropped your first single ”GO TIME ” featuring Yung Blaz and you have your new mix-tape FLIGHT VOL 2 coming soon. Can you talk about you dedication to bringing your Detroit, Canadian and Swedish International fans good music?

BIG BUS: Yeah, i’m just in a great space right now! I feel that I owe it to my fans. Including all of the people that follow what i do, to show them that even thou i’m just a underground indie artist, that i can stay current with the music and that the bigger artist are doing right now to this day.

WP: We were IN THE BUILDING, supporting Royce Da 5″9 during his album release party in Detroit. Does the success of your Detroit music industry pier’s Big Sean and “Big Bro” Royce Da 5″9 keep you working hard?

BIG BUS: Oh, Fo Show! It means that it’s almost amazing to see my n****s in a space they are in at this point. It’s like, me having a relationship with these guys and doing records with both of them and to see were they came from only makes me get on my grind even more.

WP: With all the work in the studio, you have a new Internet based Radio show, can you discuss that? Do your fans appreciate your grind?

BIG BUS: Yeah! My radio show is every Tuesday from 8pm to 10 pm on www.spunondemand.com/radio The Bus Stop Show. Basically, I hit my man miles davis up and ran an idea to him about me having a radio show on his Network and he was with it ! As far as my fans go, if they can appericiate my grind or not I don’t know. I only hope they do!

WP: You are also back in the studio working on your second album FLIGHT with award winning music Engineer/Producer Asar [worked on 7 of the 11 songs on the Bad Meets Evil EP]. Can you talk about your second studio album project? What are the benefits of working with an experienced Engineer/Producer?

BIG BUS: I love that guy Asar. He has been with me since I decided to step from behind the boards and from the back ground and started rapping myself. He produced 2 tracks for this mix-tape, recorded and mixed every track! He a work hog! At times we have or differences but at the end of the day we have a tight friendship.

WP: During your last 12 City Tour, you performed in cities like Pittsburg, Chicago and Cincinnati with acts like (Glc from GOOD MUSIC, Travis Porter, DESERT STORM, KOCH, DEFJAM). How excited are you to begin touring and connecting with your growing fan base?

BIG BUS: Its always kool to tour! Especially, when you are trying too break yourself inside of certain markets. Fans come up and say things like, man your dope, keep going! Even, asking for your autograph and taking pictures with you. I love touring and can’t forget about all the ladies! LOL… But that’s another story.

WP: As a Detroit Hip Hop fan, what are your thought’s on Slaughter House’s latest Official Music Video “Hammer Dance” & the latest G.O.O.D Music Music Video featuring Big Sean “Mercy?”

BIG BUS: I can only salute my n*****s , its so hard to break out where we come from and them n*****s did it and not only did they do it they keep on doing it both of them n*****s deserve as much success as they can handle. I love the videos and their music and at the end of the day coming from detroit trying to be a rapper is hard. If they keep doing what they doing and other local artist can come together and form a unity we all can break thru that industry barrier, you know!

WP: How can your fans contact you on social media?
