The Detroit City Council Honor’s Washington-Parks Aacademy Chess Team

DETROIT – The Washington-Parks Academy chess team was honored March 13, 2012 by the Detroit City Council for winning the Primary, Elementary & Jr. High State Chess Championships.

It gives me great pride to see our gifted kid’s being honored for their excellence and achievements in chess. The pride come’s from their high skill level and the dedication from the staff.

The understanding that someone care’s enough to help mold their minds. Knowing they have been given the education and tools to accomplish their goals, makes me proud! The realization that the discipline, knowledge obtained from chess will eventually help shape their adult lives. While challenging their character as young decision maker’s and future leader’s. Makes me proud to be from Detroit, Michigan!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” By Marianne Williamson.
