Model Lauren Woodsen Talks Business, Fashion, Roberto Cavalli & More

Michigan Model Lauren Woodsen does her first interview with WoodlawnPost.com. She talk’s about her MODELING career and fashion. She discusses how education has played a key role in her balancing both modeling/fashion, the business of modeling and marketing herself as a brand!

1) ADRIAN: When did you get started?

Lauren Woodson:

I first started modeling when I was thirteen, but all the big agencies wanted to wait until I turned sixteen to sign me, to see how tall I would get. So I gave up shortly after wasting time with the smaller agencies. By the time I was sixteen I was so focused on school, that I did not want to model anymore. In the last two years, my passion for fashion got the best of me, and now I am back at it full force!

2) ADRIAN: How do you stay confident in a industry that is so competitive?

Lauren Woodson:

I stay confident in an industry that is so competitive by trusting the LORD, believing in myself and my talent. I practice a lot and take pride in my work. If you are not sure of yourself, how can the next person believe in what you do? Everyone is different and unique, and I know there is noone like me, and that’s what keeps me confident!

3) ADRIAN: What is your typical work day like when you are preparing for a photo shoot? Music Video?

Lauren Woodson:

My typical work day is a long day! The hair, the nails, the model bag, the wardrobe, the phonecalls, the traffic, it’s chaotic! Nothing starts on time, but it lasts allllllll day, it’s hard work! It looks glamourous, but take AFTER take AFTER take is draining! They are fun nonetheless!

4) ADRIAN: What qualities do you feel a successful model should have?

Lauren Woodson:

No matter what type of model you are, you have to have confidence, “thick-skin”, stamina, independence, will power, time management skills, and a fashion sense. You have to be trust-worthy and a good role model.

5) ADRIAN: If you could pick a fashion brand to represent on the walk way, what clothing label WOULD THAT BE?

Lauren Woodson:

I LOVE Roberto Cavalli. I just do.

6) ADRIAN: From a business perspective, how has your education prepared you for your career?

Lauren Woodson:

From a business perspective, my education has prepared me for modeling in many ways. From management, marketing, advertising, intensive rhetorical training, economics, math, health, art, all of this is applied in the field of modeling. You have to know how to speak to people, be knowledgeable, how to present yourself and how to calculate how much 80% of your check is!

7) ADRIAN: Is there a single attribute that is key to entrepreneurial success IN THE FASHION BUSINESS?

Lauren Woodson:

There are a couple keys to entrepeneurial success in the fashion business, and you have to have them all in order to reach it. I think it’s a mixture of having the tools (the look/body/personality), PREPARATION (knowing how to USE to tools), and knowing the RIGHT people, being in the right place at the right time. Some people have all of the tools, and do not know who to talk to or where they should be. Some people are in the right place, but are not prepared. A lot of times it’s who you know, who you associate with.

ADRIAN: Some say the most daring thing is to be yourself and to do exactly what you want to do, can you say that about where you are during this point in your career?

Lauren Woodson:

I am myself, and that is what works for me! Thank GOD it works for my cllients as well. I am a designer/artist as well, so my choices and visions are usually understood and appreciated. I go with my heart and it usually does me right! And that’s what makes me, ME.

9) ADRIAN: HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE “YOU”?

Lauren Woodson:

I best describe myself as destined, determined, honest, loyal, trustworthy and caring. I have a great work ethic, I am ALWAYS ON TIME, and very responsible. Everything for me is black or white, it’s never gray. I am blunt and straightforward, and silly most of the time. I love fashion, art and music!

10) ADRIAN: How do you plan too give back to young aspiring model’s?

Lauren Woodson:

I plan on giving back to aspring models by answering any questions, comments or concerns with honest, helpful advice. Also, I plan on starting my own model agency some day.
