The 2012 Cinetopia International Film Festival [May 31-June 3] Presented By AT&T
ANN ARBOR – Woodlawn Post has had the opportunity of reviewing AT&T’s wonderful products and being invited to AT&T‘s 28 Days speaker series in Southfield-Detroit with host Common and guest speaker Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.
It has been announced that AT&T Corp. is the lead sponsor of the first Cinetopia International Film Festival launched in Ann Arbor along with six other sponsors.
With 35 films in genres ranging from documentary to drama to comedy and organizers expect 5,000 people for the four-day event, which runs May 31 to June 3. That number is expected to grow to 80,000 or 90,000 over the next five to 10 years, said Russ Collins, executive director of the Michigan Theater.
“If you look around Chicago and Cleveland, a lot of cities around the country … a lot of them have these kinds of sizable film festivals,” he said.
Cinetopia’s budget this year is about $100,000, $25,000 of which was paid by lead sponsor AT&T Corp.
Typically, half of the budgets of film festivals are funded by box office proceeds and the other half by sponsors, Collins said.
He does not expect a profit this year, although “eventually, that has to happen,” he said.
The festival will take place at the Michigan Theater, the State Theater, and the University of Michigan‘s Angell Hall.
