Sweden Captures Nordic Championship
Veteran Kadidja Andersson, stepped up and played an intricate role in Sweden capturing the Nordic championship this weekend as she led all scores with 15 points as Sweden beat Finland 77-68 to be crowned Nordic champs.
- Kadidja was great. She played first-class defense, worked like an animal and put in a bunch of important points. Then it’s funny that we make a start in the third quarter at the back. Without talking about it would be a coaching victory as the players are good at making use of what we talked about at half time and themselves to find ways to adapt to match the situation and do the right things. And there is yet another proof that we are in good physical shape. We use the first half to wear down the resistance, then we determine in the second half, says Lasse Johansson.
Taru Tukkanen and Tina Stone scored 18 and 15 points for Finland.
- I think this is positive, it is good to know that we have many who are capable. And it was nice to see Martina Stålvant play really well, she put in a few key threes when we jumped ahead. When Kadidja and Martina are good from the bench, we top it off, says Lasse.
This weekends top performers for Sweden were, Frida Eldebrink and Lollo Halvarsson. Both were selected in the tournament all star team, along with Finland’s Taru Tukkanen, Denmark and Iceland Ida Trygedsson Helena Sverrisdottir.
Now Sweden has a few days off from games before Wednesday’s travel to Portugal for two games against just Portugal on Thursday and Friday.
