Chargers top Packers in Preseason Opener

SAN DIEGO –The San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers would open up the NFL preseason under historic fashion as the league introduced the first female to officiate an NFL game serving as the line judge with Shannon Eastin.

The Chargers went on to a 21-13 preseason victory over the Packers on Thursday night with lots of the key players seeing limited minutes.

Chargers Rookie quarterback Jarrett Lee took most of the snaps as veteran leader Phillip Rivers(3 of 5 for 5 for 37 yards) sat most of the game. Lee connected for 235 yards and a touchdown.

 

During Rivers brief stint in the game, he was able to hook up with tight end Antonio Gates from 23 yards out for his only touchdown of the night after Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fumbled on the its first offensive series.

Rodgers threw for 16 yards on 2-of-8 passing.

Graham Harrell, who’s looking to lock up the No.2 slot behind Rodgers finished  15 of 27 for 135 yards.

Injury Report:

Ryan Matthew,the Chargers starting running back  broke his clavicle on his first carry of the preseason. He’s scheduled to have surgery on Friday and is expected to be out four to six weeks.
