Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz, On QB Shaun Hill ‘Being The Best Backup Quarterback in the NFL’
RB Jahvid Best and rookie CB Chris Greenwood remain on the Active Physically Unable to Perform list and did not practice with the team today.
Detroit heads west for their third game of the preseason as the Lions battle the Oakland Raiders at the O.co Coliseum on Saturday, August 25. Last season the Lions defeated the Raiders in a come-from-behind, 28-27, victory in Week 15. QB Matthew Stafford connected with WR Calvin Johnson for the go-ahead score with :39 left in the game, and DT Ndamukong Suh blocked Oakland’s final field goal attempt as time expired to seal the win for the Lions. Saturday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET and will air live on WXYZ-TV ABC 7. Matt Shepard will handle play-by-play and former Lions TE Rob Rubick will add color commentary while WXYZ-TV sportscasterTom Leyden reports from the sideline.
Both the Lions’ and Raiders’ weekly release for this week’s game, along with their media guide, are accessible in the Gamecenter section on the Detroit Lions media website (click here).
On QB Shaun Hill ‘being the best backup quarterback in the league’: “Well there’s a reason that we acquired him a couple years ago and there’s a reason that we worked hard to get him back under contract. He was a priority for us. The thing that you hope the most with Shaun is that he never gets the chance to prove that.
“Shaun knows his role. He can go in cold and heat up our offense. He has very good understanding of everything we do. He’s very supportive of Matt off the field and during practice; he gives him a good sounding board. Everything that you want in a backup quarterback Shaun provides. He’s experienced; you know doesn’t need a whole lot of practice reps. He can go in and execute a game plan and win a game for us and those are the most important things.” Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz said.
